MEET LAUREN FELDMAN

“Most people yearn to be understood. “

When our feelings, experiences, and identities are affirmed by others, we’re better able to learn about and affirm ourselves. Despite the innately human need for support, many of us have been taught that if we have needs it means we’re weak or “too much”.

I’m here to create space for your needs.

My therapeutic style is empathic, collaborative, and non-judgmental. My priority is for clients to feel safe and empowered throughout the treatment process. Furthermore, I believe that an authentic connection between therapist and client is crucial in driving individual growth and change. I offer feedback with honesty and curiosity, and welcome clients to share their own feedback about their experience in therapy.

I specialize in working with the LGBTQ community, focusing on issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, gender identity, sexuality and alternative sexual practices (i.e. sex work, non-monogamy, kink), codependency, trauma, relationship dynamics, substance use, and addiction. I also encourage clients to explore the impact of social and racial injustices, while making space to understand how our various identities may show up within the therapeutic relationship.

I aim to help clients deconstruct maladaptive thought and behavior patterns, heal past wounds, and cultivate the resources they need to live their fullest lives. My primary approach is psychodynamic and relational; I incorporate other modalities as needed, including cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR. EMDR in particular can be a transformative tool in addressing the physical and psychological impacts of trauma.

I believe that we can all benefit from learning to take up space and care for our needs with as much compassion as we might offer a loved one. Please reach out if you’d like to learn more about my practice. I look forward to speaking with you!
