MEET MARIA SOBOL

“Most of us have parts of ourselves and our lives we would like to change or improve.”

You may feel dissatisfaction, frustration, or unhappiness in your relationships, your job, your physical health and well-being, your family, or your emotional life.

You may feel uncertain or lost as to what direction you want to take your life.  Or you may feel generally overwhelmed with trying to balance multiple aspects of your life (family, work, personal time, social and intimate relationships). At times you may feel you are on top of things and at other times you may feel stuck, frustrated, behind, or stagnant.  It can be helpful to have an outside person who can listen, connect, and collaborate with you to find a comfortable balance in your life.

I believe that change is possible and most likely to occur when people feel comfortable and safe in relationship, both with themselves and with another.  My approach is relational, warm, collaborative, and accepting. My strengths-based perspective fosters collaboration with each person in order to promote progress and success in therapy.

From my 15 plus years in practice, I have developed an integrative approach in which I incorporate a variety of different treatment modalities to fit your specific and individual needs. I strive to meet you where you are and work with you to find the most appropriate avenue for progress. The different approaches I draw from most often include: Psychodynamic, Person-Centered, Attachment Focused, Narrative, Somatic/Sensorimotor, Mindfulness, and Psycho-education.

I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and have worked in a variety of settings, most recently for 12 years at a family support center in San Francisco.  I have experience working with clients from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and familial backgrounds.  I work with adults, couples, children, adolescents, parent-child dyads, and families.  My practice includes extensive experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, acute and complex trauma, parenting, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and separation/divorce/co-parenting issues.

If you would like to explore the idea of how therapy might feel supportive and helpful to you, I would be happy to talk with you about your hopes, struggles, concerns, and goals to see if we might be a good fit.
